Florida Keys Fishing Trips | Get Reports | Islamorada Fishing Charters

Just like weather reports tell you what to expect from the sky, the Florida Keys fishing reports editors use expert knowledge of geography, biology, and climatology to tell you what you can expect from the waters in and around Islamorada.  If you are staying a week or more in one of the many convenient Florida Keys fishing resorts, checking the fishing reports for the day can tell you whether you will be bringing in a big catch that day or whether your time might be better spent touring the many restaurants, gardens, and museums onshore.

Check the fishing reports ahead of time, before you leave home, to get a better idea of what you want to do each day of your vacation.  Then, check them again each morning of your vacation to make sure you wring the most potential out of each and every moment in the Florida Keys fishing resorts.  Reading the Florida Keys fishing reports will tell you about the temperature, clarity, and calmness of the waters both inshore and offshore, as well as the species of fish most likely to be biting.

Despite the fact that the waters, like the weather, can sometimes be unpredictable, there are some general patterns or seasons which you can expect to see every year.  The best time for inland, “backcountry” fishing in Islamorada is usually from June and November.  The shallow waters are teeming with bonefish, permit, tarpon, snook, and redfish (“spot tails”) from summer through autumn, though trout, bonefish, and redfish can actually be caught at any time of year.  This time of year is also relatively quiet on the island, as tourist season usually ends around the middle of summer.

Offshore, spring through fall is known as dolphin (“mahi-mahi”) season, also good for catching marlin and grouper.  Fall through winter is known as sailfish season, but the king fish are biting at this time of year, too.  Between winter and spring, before the summer heat warms the waters up all the way, is the best time for catching cobia, amberjack, Wahoo, permit, African pompano, and sharks.  Regardless of when you choose to visit, the deep-sea fishing is certain to be good and the snapper, tuna, and swordfish are going to be biting.
