When you go to Florida on vacation, you can find plenty of things to do. Swimming, sightseeing, and lazing around on the beach are just some examples. One activity that many visit Florida for, however, is sport fishing. You don’t have to be a veteran fisher to enjoy it; your entire family will have the time of your life taking on the big fish off the coasts of Florida Keys, particularly of Islamorada, which is well-known for its wide variety of fishing game. All you need to do is find a charter boat that will be perfect for your preferences and you’re off to trying your hand at scoring some of these prized catch:

Grouper

One of the big reasons you should go fishing in Islamorada is that you can catch quite a few groupers when they’re in season. Groupers are excellent food, so the whole family will find it a thrill to catch one. Coming in various types, these fish usually eat crustaceans, octopi, other fish, and younger sea turtles. Known as bottom dwellers, it takes the lure of fresh bait to catch them. They are big and tough so you’ll be needing strong fishing gear to drag them out of the depths. Be careful though; some of them are endangered and are illegal to catch. An experienced charter crew can guide you on how to avoid the protected kinds.

Sailfish

The official state saltwater fish, sailfish can be found in waters where the temperature changes. They usually travel alone or in small groups, and their long high dorsal fin is a distinctive sight. The struggle one puts up make this fish an attractive catch for many anglers.

Cobia

Another favorite Islamorada catch is the Cobia. They are best caught either from February to March or from June to July. The Cobia can reach really large sizes. For example, the summer run can yield a catch of 80 pounds in weight. This makes it an excellent fish to catch for sport since it puts up quite a fight. Additionally, once you’ve caught it, it makes for a good meal. An average Cobia can weigh from 20 to 30 pounds, which is quite impressive.

Good Luck and Good Fishing

These are just a few examples of fish that you can catch while out on the deep blue. There are a lot more species available like tarpons and blue marlins. Choosing and booking a charter boat is easy with the help of a charter boat listing website like Islamorada Fishing Source. You can find all the information you need to start you and your family off to an exciting adventure.
