Islamorada Back Country Fishing Chart...

What a week here in Islamorada Florida!  The wreck fishing has been incredible this week, and with the front coming it looks like it is only going to get better!  It has been a long time since I have seen as many Wahoo here as we have now.  Wahoo, Kings, Blackfin Tunas, and a few Sails.  If we are lacking anything it is Sails in good numbers, but the rest of the fishing is so good it doesn’t even matter.  Bait has been so abundant that you can actually take your pick on whatever you want to catch.  Large schools of pilchards to the north, Cigar Minnows and Ballyhoo on the patches, and Speedos on the edge of the reef.  It is all here, and with this muc ...

Islamorada Offshore Fishing Charter R...

by Ryan Gruenholz on 03/26/2015 - 08:44 am
Category: Fishing Report and Forecast

Hello everyone, and welcome back to this week’s Islamorada Offshore Fishing report!  The fishing these weeks has been decent, but a little slow as this moon has been approaching.  Sailfishing was really starting to pick up last week, but for whatever reason the current has fallen out and made things a bit more difficult than we like.   A few Sails have been caught pretty much each day, but nothing off the charts.  Hoping that after this moon it will start to pick up.  The wind has been blowing all week, and is just starting to come down.  Bait has been relatively easy as there have been a lot of Pilchards around.  The deep dropping this week so f ...

Hello everyone, and welcome back to this week’s report!  The weather has been a bit rough here this week to say the least, and the fishing has been decent, but pretty slow after the moon.  The offshore scene has shown to yield a few nicer Dolphin, and a handful of Tunas.  Nothing to write home about, but there have been some pretty nice Dolphin caught.  Not too much on the Deep dropping or Swordfishing scene as the conditions have not been too favorable to fish for these guys.  The Humps are holding some Jacks, Sharks, and smaller tunas.  The reef and wrecks have really been the best of it this week.  Some pretty nice Muttons and Groupers, and a few A ...

Hello everyone, and welcome back to this week’s Islamorada Fishing Charter report!  What a week we are having here in the beautiful Florida Keys!  The weather is absolutely beautiful, and the fishing is really heating up!  Where do I start this week….well I don’t know anyone that has been offshore as of yet Swordfishing, so we can get that out of the way now.  What I do know is the Mahi are starting to show up in a little better numbers now that we can get out and search around for them a bit.  It has been the “magical piece of debris” that has yielded the best results, but there have been a few fish caught on the birds and weed edges.& ...

Hello everyone, and welcome back to this week’s Islamorada Fishing report!  The weather this week has been absolutely incredible here in Islamorada, and the fishing hasn’t been too bad either!  I wouldn’t say any one thing has been red hot, but everything has been cooperating well enough to get the job done.  We have had a few Sailfish around, as well as some Wahoo and Kings inside of 200 feet of water.  In addition, there have been some Dolphin, Tunas, and Amberjacks offshore.  Inside of 1200’ on any sort of weed edge or current edge has been the best for the Dolphin, while the Tunas have been moving around between the humps and 300 feet of w ...

Weekly Islamorada Offshore Fishing Re...

Hello everyone, and welcome back to this week’s Islamorada Fishing Report!  Another exciting week here in Islamorada as the weather has been great!  Those to the North of us know that it has been chilly to say the least, and we have another little front moving through starting tonight, but the North winds should make it pretty doable off the reef.
Looking forward to some Sailfish action this weekend, and more than likely some Mahi moving through.  There have been a few nice ones moving around, which has put plenty of smiles on faces at dinner tables this past week.
The Sailfishing remains slow, but consistent with a couple few bites each day.  Looking for th ...

Weekly Islamorada Deep Sea Fishing Re...

The weather has been crazy this winter and is way too cold for the coconuts on our palm trees if you catch my drift.  The good news is that the fishing has been pretty good, and we are hopeful that this front is going to be just the push we have been waiting on to get these pelagic creatures to move into area.  The Sailfishing this past week has been pretty slow, but there have been a few fish caught around the Island.  There have been some really nice King Mackerel, and a few decent Wahoo caught this week as well.  The Kites have been the weapon of choice with either Goggle Eyes or Cigar Minnows being the bait of choice.  The other tasty morsels such as Pilchards, B ...

Sailfishing is on the brain as we wrap up the end of the Islamorada tournaments this week with the Poor Girls Sailfish Tournament coming to a close.  It was 5 fish that won the tournament, and was a better bite all the way around.  It appears that a new batch of fish is moving into town, and is shaping up to be a great late winter or early spring bite that is coming our way.  Good numbers of fish to the North of us should be gradually making their way into town each day, so we are hopeful that the fishing will move from good to great!  There have also been some encounters with Wahoo, Dolphin, Kingfish, and Tunas while waiting on the Sails to take our baits so the variety ...

Hello everyone, and welcome back to this week’s report!  The weather has been fairly decent this week with some days having a bit more wind than others, but fishable nonetheless.  With this new front coming through, we are hoping that pretty good fishing turns great, and the fish continue to bite even better.  Offshore the humps are starting to heat up as the Amberjacks are starting to show up in good numbers.  Decent numbers of smaller Blackfin Tuna are also scurrying around these areas, as well as some REALLY big sharks.  You can definitely food chain these guys if you start with the Tunas, and use them for the Amberjacks, then the Amberjacks for the sharks. ...

The reef bite has been just good enough the past few days, as the Snappers have been adjusting to the cooler water temperatures and have definitely been biting better on the incoming tide’s warmer temperatures.  Catching enough for dinner has been fairly easy, but if you time it correctly, you can catch more than your share.  Plenty of Kings have moved in on the edge of the reef, and a lot of Cero Mackerels have been in the chum slick.  The Grouper fishing has been pretty good to the South, as well as Mutton Snappers from 160’ in to the patches.  Remember that Grouper season closes on the first of the month until May 1st, so if Grouper are what you are after y ...
