Week of 12/24/12 - Islamorada Fishing...

by Ryan Gruenholz on 12/19/2012 - 11:14 pm
Category: Fishing Report and Forecast

Hello everyone, and welcome back to this week’s Forecast!  It has been an exciting week here in the Florida Keys as the Sailfish action has been great!  Plenty of fish in close on the reef, with a lot of “bait showering” opportunities.  The deeper bite hasn’t been that incredible, but in close in the shallow water it has been off the hook!  We actually managed to take 2nd place in the Pace Anglers tournament, and then 3rd place in the Islamorada Junior Sailfish this past couple weeks, so the Catchalottafish is off to a great start on the season!  The great thing about these Sailfish when they are showering is you just need Ballyhoo for bait. & ...

When it comes to Florida Keys fishing guides, as with every other guide you might encounter for other activities, not all of them are the same. Finding the right one may spell the difference between your chartered fishing trips in Florida being the highlight of your vacation and never wanting to return to the Fishing Capital of the World.

So, how can you tell if a guide is the right one? First of all, a knowledgeable guide will be attuned to water conditions. Not only will he know which tide to fish in for a particular type of species, but he will also know the exact time to make the move. He will be familiar with wind speed and direction, effects of water temperature, moon phase, c ...

Hello everyone and welcome back to this week’s report!  The Sailfishing is falling right into place this week, as we have seen a caught good numbers of fish!  Actually, the fishing has been pretty good all up and down the keys ,but the best of it has been in the Upper Keys from the reports that I have received.  Live chumming has been really good all week, as the pilchards have been plentiful, and the Sailfish have been enjoying the livies.  The kites have been doing well too, with Goggle Eyes, Sardines, and Threadfin Herring being the best with this method.  Plenty of fish to be had, and we are hoping that this front will push some new fish in here for the wee ...

Hey everyone, and welcome back to this week's report!  The offshore scene has been a little dismal this week, and will probably be into the weekend as the winds are blowing, and it doesn't look like it is going to subside much more than 15 knots or so, so we will be staying in on the reef edge for the end of this week and the weekend.  That is just fine with me, as the fishing in this area has been awesome!  The Sailfish are here and have been biting pretty good, and with this next little front, it would appear that we would get a nice little push into the Keys.  The Sailfish bite has been pretty decent all week from Key Largo to Key West, and the Mackerels have been righ ...

Offshore fishing this week is heating up for the weekend, as the Pelagic fish are really starting to move in close to the reef!  The current in the upper keys is right up along the reef to the NE, and the bait is ...
